REGARDING your article (LET, March 15) concerning the planned sculpture memorial to former Blackburn MP Barbara Castle to be sited in the new Sudell Cross Plaza. It would indeed be a wonderful tribute to Blackburn's first lady.

Barbara Castle MP served out town conscientiously for 34 years and I'm sure had she been our MP today, much as I respect Jack Straw, Barbara would have insisted the MoD clothing contract remained with the local firm, who had done this work so admirably over several decades.

As far as former Tory councillor E Harrison's vulgar remarks are concerned, they are quite unnecessary.
