DETECTIVES have recovered the vehicle believed to have been used to free a prisoner serving a six-year sentence for robbery.

Neil Brennan (21), who had been involved in carjackings, escaped on March 2 when he was being taken by taxi from Forest Bank prison in Agecroft to Hope Hospital in Salford. A 4x4 vehicle pulled out in front of the taxi and prison officers were held at gunpoint by two men who freed Brennan.

This week police said they had recovered a Kia Sorrento which they believe was used in the escape. It is undergoing forensic examinations.

Brennan had been convicted of robberies in Stand Lane, Radcliffe, and at Fairfield Hospital and Fairhaven Avenue, Bury.
