ON March 14, my partner went for a caretaking job at a primary school in Bury. Also at the interview, were four other candidates and - surprise, surprise - they were already caretakers working for Bury MBC. They were just going for the job because it was more hours.

My partner was told that he would be informed of the outcome once his references came back. Shortly after 1pm, he found a message on our answerphone, saying that he did not get the job.

Isn't it about time Bury MBC took a look at how they select staff. Obviously one of their employees was always going to be given this job. Why?

There were no CRB checks to make.

There were no references to wait for.

Equal Opportunities? Not with Bury MBC.
