I WRITE in response to the letters (March 17) written by Devil's Advocate and Catherine Barry, regarding their views on speed cameras.

Anyone who chooses to drive with not tax or insurance and with a blatant disregard for the safety of others, deserves to be caught. There should be more police available to catch them.

In a civilised society laws are there to protect us all, and maintain the fabric of society. Without such laws, civilisation would descend into anarchy.

Speed cameras have recently been the subject of many debates. Do they work or are they just a way of raising revenue?

I would just ask this: if there had been a speed camera on Bolton Road, Radcliffe, on the night Natalie Jones died, would the driver have been aware of it and have driven at 30mph instead of 58mph, thus preventing her death?

Surely a camera is better than nothing, as is the case now.

I have witnessed at first-hand the pain and the grief caused to Natalie's parents, family and friends by the actions of an irresponsible driver on Bolton Road in February last year.

The law failed them on this occasion - both on the road and in court - and as such I back their campaign for a speed camera 100 per cent. They only want to prevent this happening to someone else.
