Blackburn parade marks Shia day of mourning

HUNDREDS of Shia Muslims took to the streets of Blackburn to commemorate the sacrifice of Imam Hussain and his companions in the name of Islam.

Marchers left Addison Street at at 2pm on Sunday for the annual parade to mark ‘Ashura’, the anniversary of the death of prophet Mohammed’s grandson in the 7th century.

They then walked along Preston New Road, Montague Street, Devonport Street and back to Addison Street.

The event takes place annually in the town and similar parades are held across the world.

Imam Hussain was the grandson of the prophet Mohammed and was killed in a stand-off at the battle of Karbala in the seventh century.

As a consequence the anniversary of his death is called ‘Ashura' and is a day of mourning for Shia Muslims.

Those taking part in the march on Sunday beat their chests to express mourning at the pain Hussain and his companions had suffered.

makes me sick this town. if there was a march for to remember the fallen troops it would be out-lawed(classed as a B.N.P rally) or the heavy handed police would be out in force prevoking trouble.Well i guess the clues in the name of the town BLACKburn

shia/****/sharia - whatever - is not cohesive behaviour if we want to integrate with these groups? what more do us natives need to do to allow these people with alternative views on life to integrate with us infidels?

C'mon Baz. Think about it. Every Rememberance Sunday, the good people of this town, black and white, different denominations attend the parade and service in the park of our fallen heroes. HEROES incidently from all parts of the old Empire and Commonwealth. HEROES who fought and died for you. Maybe next Rememberance Sunday we'll see you there paying your respects. We've perhaps a lot more in common than you think.

Who cares about the reason? there should be a law passed re: fat hairy unsightly bodies being paraded in public!
