Blackburn death crash asylum seeker wins fight to stay in country

AN ASYLUM seeker who left a 12-year-old Blackburn girl dying under the wheels of his car has won the right to stay in this country.

Aso Mohammed Ibrahim's victory has outraged Amy Houston's father Paul, who had been fighting for the Iraqi national's deportation since his daughter's death in 2003.

And the judge's decision yesterday has also left officials at the UK Border Agency stunned.

They had been trying to send Ibrahim back to Iraq and said they were 'extremely disappointed' to have failed.

Justice Secretary and Blackburn MP Jack Straw said he would take to case to Home Secretary Alan Johnson in a bid to force an appeal.

Ibrahim was yesterday told by a judge in Manchester that he would be allowed to stay in England permanently, six years and one month after Amy's death.

Mr Houston, of Argyle Street, Darwen, said he was 'raging' that a judge had allowed him to stay.

He said: “They may as well give passports out in lucky bags because that’s all they’re worth.

“I can’t believe the decision the judge has come to. Is he on a different planet?

“I’ve had Greg Pope back me, as well as Janet Anderson and Jack Straw.

"All these MPs and what good does it do?

“I’ve been taken for a mug because I’m a little man, a working class man, and it doesn’t matter to them."

Mr Houston vowed to continue the fight to have Ibrahim deported.

He said: "What a Christmas present for him and what a terrible one for my family.

"Well, I hope he doesn’t celebrate too soon because this is not the end.

"I could sit here and think, 'well, Amy’s dead, she isn’t going to come back', but I won’t.

“I will fight this for the rest of my life until he leaves the country."

Amy ran into the road in Newfield Drive, Highercroft, Blackburn, and was struck by Ibrahim's car.

He ran off, leaving her under the car.

Ibrahim was jailed for four months for driving while disqualified and failing to stop after an accident.

At the time of the crash he had no licence or insurance and was said to have exhausted all means of appeal to stay in this country, but could not be deported because Iraq was unsafe.

In 2006, he appeared before court again for driving while disqualfied.

Fourteen months ago he was taken to a deportation centre and UK Border Agency officials vowed they would try to remove him from the country 'at the earliest possible opportunity'.”

He was later released on bail and launched an appeal against deportation on grounds that he had married and had two children in England.

Mr Straw said he found the judge's decision 'very disappointing'.

He said: “I will be speaking to the Home Secretary to see if there’s any way we can appeal against this decision, and I will also be talking to the family.

"They have been through an awful time.”

Jo Liddy, regional director of the UK Border Agency in the North West, Jo Liddy, added their 'extreme disappointment'.

She said: "We have made it clear that we will prioritise the removal of those foreign nationals who present the most risk of harm to the public."

However, just being upset about it wont change any decisions. This bewigged fool has made his decision and his cronies will back him up. Our judicial system is a joke. Mark my words, Ibrahim will be staying right where he is. No doubt laughing fit to burst.

Another disgrace! The initial sentence of this man was beyond belief! The fact he has been here for the past 6 years is beyond belief! How much in benefits and legal costs has this man extracted from the British public?

A man comes here with no right to do so, flouts our laws, kills one of our citizens, runs away, shows no remorse. So we provide him money and expensive legal assistance paid for from taxes of people who do not want him here.
The whole thing would be a joke if it wasnt for the sadness and injustice being suffered by the little girls family.
The Judge should be ashamed and struck off - the man shold be deported or locked up until he can be.

There should be a public outcry over this - my blood boils!

This makes me weep with anger.

So an illegal immigrant is allowed to bring his children up in this country whilst denying Paul Houston to do the same in his own country.

I shouldn't say it, and it's not a very Christian thought at Christmas, but if I were Paul Houston I'd probably be tempted to lose control of my car accidentally on purpose whilst driving past Ibrahim and his family.

Ibrahim is scum, the judge is scum, Jack Straw is scum.
And they wonder why people vote for the BNP.

The only way that things will change is via the ballot box. He should have got a big prison sentence then when he finish that he should them have been deported back to Iraq, that is Justice NOT what he got and the Justice Minister should hold his head in shame.

greedy politicians who are responsible for creating laws to protect the guilty? I, and many thousands like me are fed up to the back teeth hearing stories like this. A possible solution; Vigilante squads? sounds like a good idea to me if this is the only way to deal with the utter scum we have in this country as it's obvious the system we have at the moment fails miserably. My thoughts go to the family at this time and I would like to offer my full support to any campaign they might organise. And to the person who suggested printing this b@st@rds address...what a bloody good idea. I bet it wouldn't be long before he thought Iraq might just be a safer option...assuming he makes it there.

The judge clearly made the WRONG decision in letting this man stay. I know from experience how the immigration process is coming into the UK. I am a teacher and have been trying for over 3 years to be able to live, work, and pay taxes in the UK. This man has broken your laws, he has acted as a coward, he has killed an innocent little girl and destroyed her family....yet after years of public outcry and the pleads of the father (who IS a born in England, tax paying citizen) this killer is allowed to stay? What a shame that some legal loophole has over ridden what is obviously RIGHT in this case. This man should be deported.

Been seeing this headline all day outside newsagents. Right now, words - and there are many that could be used/wasted even, an infinite and exhaustive amount to describe the outrage I and plenty of others think about it. But it just goes to show how completely insane the justice system is in this country and that's its not fit to make rational decision that most of the public would like and have always led to believe would be 'justice'. How much is this judge being paid to make such insane decisions - a decision that is surely not in the publics interest, let alone the family concerned, lease of all the tension it creates in the community. Because, right here, right there - THIS is where the conflict starts. The idiocy of such decisions.

You don't pay your council tax - banged up in prison, don't pay your TV licence the same in some instances. Then you read about this! Followed this since it was first featured in LET and have done so since.

Hate to say this, but given how it's gone thus far (and how every other illegal criminal is allowed to run amok in the UK without fear of punishment or at least the punishment we desperately perceive should be handed out to them) was there any doubt that he WOULDN'T be staying.

Well done to the judge. You've just send one massive sign up to all illegal immigrants everywhere - you may enter our country illegally, work here, do what the hell you like and we won't punish you. I expect the judge will have a very lavish Xmas on the salary he obscenely receives - I say 'obscene' because clearly he is in no way fit to get paid for making these decisions as reported - and has likely never suffered at the hands of any criminal, and more than likely doesn't know how it feels. So far out of touch our MPs, justice system has shown itself and it's getting worse and worse and worse. If someone doesn't stop this every single person in this country can look out because if we live here, were born here we can never expect fairness. But if we arrive here illegally we can. I am sickened, appalled.

The justice system in this country is rotten, got to be given this verdict. But we see this every day but we also question it every day. Yet no one in power wants to know or even bother. The judge(s) clearly aren't really fit to reason nor discern what is fair or right to hand down as a decision. I mean, what the hell interest is there in keeping this murderer in this country??

1.How much has this scumbag claimed in legal aid?.
2. Which organisation has been backing his fight against deportation?.
3. Which legal firm has been representing the scumbag.
4. On what grounds was the scumbag's appeal successful?.
5. Who were the judge or judges that allowed scumbag's appeal?.
6. What is the present address of the scumbag?.
Now Catherine, that would make a really interesting piece for inclusion in the LET!.

Paul has been deliberately misled. Straw always knew that legal aid would pay the scum's legal bills and just so long as he appeals every time, he's guaranteed a home in Britain.
Same with all asylum seekers.

I am sorry but I for one will still be voting for Labour. Gordon Brown is a Great Man and has saved the World financially! No Doubt in my mind!!! If you want to support the Rich and Middle Classes who have always exploited the working classes - Then go ahead vote conservative, but think very carefully before you do!

An absolute total disgrace, I am speachless with anger at this moronic judgement. It has taken 6 long years for this conclusion to be reached, 6 years, who has been fighting this murderer's corner for all that time?
Mr Straw, "the musims friend" has a lot to answer for, BNP here I come.

" G B is a great man and has saved the world financially" !!!!!!!!!!
Excuse me but it was his financial policies whilst Chancellor that helped get us into this mess in the first place.
Every so often the country elects a Labour government inheriting a buoyant economy from the previous Tory government. Then a few years later after dragging us down into the mire the Tories have to pull us back out. Next year when we elect a proper government their first tasks will be to undo the disasters of this inept labour shambles. Only after a period of hardships endured mostly by the middleclasses who subsidise both the rich and poor will we begin to benefit. Then some idiots will again vote Labour and undo the good done during the Conservative reign.

Your Verbal Abuse exposes your true character 'rayzer'
Let see what the history books say in 50 years time.
The financial problems where on a Global scale - and not caused by Great Britain or the Labour Government, but who's lead did every other country follow to avoid becoming bankrupt!
However (going back to the topic in hand) - I think that we are all aware that the laws on immigration need changing to avoid anything like like from happening in the future!

Why are some of you blathering on about Gordon Brown?, this post is about a young girl who was murdered by this, (I have no words to describe it), who ran away, who got just 4 months for murdering her, who is still here 6 years later and free.
What would have happened to him under sharia law?

He should have to face the death penatly . Amy was a great girl and she does deserve justice . Her dad has my support for this murderer to be punished the right way and not to just have a small punishment .

Absolutely disgraceful.
But sadly just another piece of evidence of Britain going to the dogs!
It's ok for the fat cats making all the decisions who live in their lavish houses out in the countryside, away from all the scumbags they let into the country to cause havoc in innocent peoples lives.
DISGRACEFUL!
Lost for words.

I feel enraged about this decision. Amy's family has received no justice.
It beggars belief that this man could exploit legal loopholes to remain in this country. Many cases brought before the Internation Human Rights fail because of the time limit.
The government knows this. I am afraid that there was never any chance that Ibrahim would be expelled by them as they consider the future implications of expulsion rather than past misdemeanours.
The problem is the fault of the first judge. He should have been deported immediately. There has to be a law whereby asylum seekers can be deported irrespective of the dangers they face. It's both the government and the judiciary's fault. This man has to be deported. It is scandalous and an affront to the nation that he is here.
Please publish who the judge is

''There has to be a law whereby asylum seekers can be deported irrespective of the dangers they face''

European court of 'human rights'.
The only way to overrule this is to remove ourselves from the EU.
A BNP government has pledged to do just that.

I am ashamed to say this but after this shambles the BNP and the conservatives are dead certs to get more MPs/councillors at the next election. Mr Straw you should hang your head in shame, call yourself a justice minister, wait till I see you at your next town centre meeting, I will ask you a simple question why did YOU let this happen?
