Woman freed from car after four-vehicle crash on M65

FIRE crews freed a trapped woman from her vehicle this morning after a smash on the M65.

Two eastbound lanes of the M65 were closed following the accident at 8.30am between junctions four and five, near the Darwen exit.

Fire crews at the scene freed a female driver in her 20s from one car before helping paramedics to remove her on a spinal board.

It is not thought that she suffered any serious injuries and the spinal board was described as a precaution.

Traffic was queueing on the motorway for up to two hours following the accident affecting traffic travelling towards Accrington from Blackburn.

Who said it was dark?

Some roads dont have lighting and never will. If there are no lights you adjust your driving accordingly. There is no such thing as a dangerous road only dangerous or careless drivers.

I can't agree with the above comments. This stretch of the M65 is dangerous. It's been badly designed with an excess of three lanes changing to 2 and vice versa, often near slip roads and exits. Another factor is that that junction 5 has not been upgraded, even though traffic has increased since the Royal Blackburn expansion. At peak times traffic is quing on the inside lane with the inevitable consequences.

I'm not trying to take away the driver factor butthis sort of incident will continue to happen unlees the road/junctions are upgraded.

I hope the lady recovers

The story says it was 8:30am so plenty of light. I wonder how much of a factor the humid days and nights are having on road saftey. Everyone is wearied, especially those without Aircon in their car. I've been stuck in 4 motorway accidents in the last 7 days.

I was being ironic.
Crashes are down to bad drivers not whether it is dark or not.

I agree wholeheartedly with NICEONESUNSHINE. I travel this stretch nearly every day and the uphill approach to Junction 4 is treacherous. Idiots regularly "race" up the 3 lane hill and leave it to the very last moment to pull in when it changes to 2 lanes which often results in vehicles having to brake heavily because the brow of this hill is blind. On the other side the idiot driver often finds vehicles moving slower in the 2 lanes because they are slowing down to cross over to turn off at J4. The design of this motorway needs a serious rethink.

Very good, lets resort to petty childish insults. Great way to demonstrate your lack of intelligence...

Everyone, and I mean everyone (except you of course), knows you adjust your driving to the conditions, fog, dark, rain, whatever. Roads dont cause accidents. Idiot drivers and drivers not taking proper care do.

Very few accidents are just that - accidents - most have a root cause due to a driver doing something wrong.

Well said ChiRho. You can adjust your driving to any conditions if you really want to. Most accidents are not accidents hence the reason for the Police changing the wording from RTA (Road Traffic Accident) to RTC (Road Traffic Collision). The change was to reflect that the majority of so called road accidents are mostly blameworthy. They don`t just happen for no reason.
