A DARWEN-born artist has created a unique mosaic portrait of John Lennon to raise money for Cancer Research.

Ed Chapman, who lived in Hawkshaw Avenue and attended St Cuthbert’s Primary School, raised £3,500 for the charity at the Sound and Vision fundraiser at Abbey Road Studios, London.

Mr Chapman was chosen as the only contemporary artist to have his work auctioned, and spent weeks working on the large artwork made from hundreds of fragments of ceramic tile.

The event featured an auction of music memorabilia and performances from several musicians, headlined by Paul Weller.

Mr Chapman said: “I am delighted to have raised £3,500 with the mosaic of John Lennon.

“He was the perfect choice as he is internationally renowned, and the fact the work was being auctioned at the place where The Beatles recorded made his portrait all the more appropriate.”

Mr Chapman now lives in Manchester and sells in galleries all over the world.
