DRIVING the morning after he had been drinking proved to be a recipe for disaster for a Stonyhurst College chef.

Blackburn magistrates heard Christopher Hayton was involved in an accident that was not his fault and failed a breathalyser.

Hayton, 22, of Henthorn Road, Clitheroe, pleaded guilty to driving with excess alcohol. He was banned from driving for 12 months and fined £235 with £75 costs.

The court heard that Hayton gave a reading of 55 against the legal limit of 35 after colliding with a Land Rover.

Andrew Church-Taylor, defending, said police accepted the accident was the fault of the other driver who had been overtaking a milk van and didn’t get back to his side of the road in time.

“My client hadn’t drunk heavily the night before, he had slept and he felt fine to drive,” said Mr Church-Taylor.
