AN East Lancashire firm helped athletes reach their best to win gold medals at the Olympics.

Science in Sport, which develops and manufactures energy drinks, supplied £75,000 of products to the cycling and the sailing team at the Beijing Olympics.

Cyclist Jamie Staff took his first Olympic gold medal at the Beijing Games and said Sports in Science energy shakes, gels and drinks had helped keep his and other athletes’ nutrition levels up.

He visited the firm at its base in Venture Court, Altham Industrial Estate, along with British Olympic sailing team leader Stephen Park, to thank them for supplying them with the energy supplements.

The teams take the products before, during and after training to ensure they bodies have enough nutrients so they can perform at their best.

Gold medallist Jamie said: “We use these products as part of our training.

“The have them before, after and during training.

“They help put nutrients back into my system ready for another day.”

Former BMX biker Jamie won gold in the team sprint and he was responsible for the fastest ever first lap in a team sprint.

He said: “It was emotional winning the gold medal.

“I had put so much time and effort into training especially after I missed out in Athens I had to win the medal.“ Coumapny director Tim said: “It is great for us to be getting some publicity for this, we have been supplying the teams for many years and I suppose, in a small way, we have contributed to the athletes’ success. We have supplied the teams for the last 15 years.

“We are the best kept secret. We supplied the British sailing team and the British cycling team who won the majority of medals at the Olympic games.”

Well RAyzer coming from Burnley i will excuse your ignorance! These people are real heroes, They aren't professional sports people these are normal people that devote their lives to represent Great Britain.
They aren't overpaid footballers or the like they get paid 25k a year which isn't much for training day in day out for four years for one event.
