Clayton-le-Moors procession, 1912
You can’t imagine them getting away with this today!
A minstrel band was one of 40 floats which took part in the 11th Rose Queen procession for St James’ Church, Clayton-le-Moors in 1912.
The procession made its way along Blackburn Road to the Dunkenhalgh where Jeannie Clegg, daughter of the council chairman was crowned Rose Queen.
Along the way £60 was collected from the crowd which went towards a new classroom being built a St James’ school.
It’s difficult to see from the photo but the crowds lining the route were five and six deep as most of the town turned out to watch.
