One teenager has been arrested with police saying 'further arrests will be made' after a group of youths attacked another group in an East Lancashire park.

Police in Hyndburn were made aware of a group of teenagers who had been approaching other teens in Mercer Park in Clayton-le-Moors and assaulting them in unprovoked attacks.

Of the group, officers have managed to identify four culprits.

One of them, a 14-year-old, has been arrested for two actual bodily harm offences, along with other unconnected offences, with officers saying they will be making more arrests in the coming days.

A spokesperson for Lancashire Police said: "Hyndburn Police have been made aware of a group of teenagers who have been approaching other teenagers in Mercer Park, Clayton-le-Moors and assaulting them in unprovoked attacks.

"Four of these young people have been identified.

"One of these youths, a 14-year-old, has been arrested today for two actual bodily harm offences, along with other unconnected offences, and there will be further arrests in the coming days.

"This behaviour is completely unacceptable and all offenders will be dealt with.

"If you have witnessed any such violence please report this on 101 so that these youths can be targeted and prevented from assaulting other innocent young people."
