Borough planners have been asked to approve two bids to regularise the use of farmland to look after people's pet dogs.

Wayne Roe has asked Hyndburn Council for retrospective permission to use Cottams Farm in Whalley Road, Clayton-le-Moors, for the purpose.

And Nicki Hadgraft has requested the authority for backdated planning approval her conversion of a building and land at Heys Lane Farm in Hyndburn Road, Great Harwood, into dog day care facilities.

Mr Roe seeks a change of use from agricultural land to the exercising of dogs with associated welfare buildings and parking area.

Mrs Hadgraft wants retrospective planning permission to use an agricultural building and associated land for the use as dog day care facilities with associated infrastructure and ancillary facilities

Mr Roe's proposal would authorise the use of two steel cabins and a dog walking field at Cottams Farm.

A supporting statement with Mrs Hadgraft's scheme says: "The plot of land and building that is the subject of this planning application is conveniently located on the south eastern side of Great Harwood and situated to the south of Hyndburn Road.

"The site is very well screened from third party views by the existing tree cover that borders the farm’s landholding on the northern, eastern and southern sides and by the natural lie of the land.

"The business has operated without complaint from third parties since the daycare facility was set up in November 2020 whilst at the same time delivering significant benefits to K9 Kingdom’s client base that are drawn from the immediate area.

"There are three separate exercise fields to ensure that client dogs can exercise either in isolation or in groups dependent on their size or temperament.

"The main kennel building that is a converted chicken shed that previously lay vacant.

"There are 10 dog pens to segregate dogs as and when required – i.e. due to potential illness, for rest time and during feeding time.

"The kennel building has good internal circulation space and a grooming table so that members of staff can easily clean and dry dogs before their return home to customers."
