A man is in critical condition after being hit by a car in Blackpool on Thursday (July 27).

Police were called to Squires Gate Lane, close to the railway bridge for Blackpool South Train Station, at 5.15pm.

There were reports that a man had been hit by a black Mercedes CLA 45

The man, aged in his 60s, is currently in hospital where he is in a critical, but stable, condition.

The Mercedes is believed to have been travelling in company with a silver BMW prior to the crash.

The driver of the Mercedes, a 30-year-old from Blackpool, was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

The driver of the BMW, a 28-year-old man from Blackpool was arrested on suspicion of drug-driving.

Both men have since been released under investigation.

Officers are now appealing for more information.

A police spokesperson said: “We are appealing for witnesses and footage after a man was left critically injured following a collision in Blackpool.

“Our officers were called to Squires Gate Lane, close to the railway bridge for Blackpool South Train Station, at 5.15pm yesterday following reports a black Mercedes CLA 45 had collided with a pedestrian.

“The pedestrian, a man in his 60s, suffered multiple serious injuries and is currently in hospital in a critical but stable condition.

“The Mercedes is believed to have been travelling in company with a silver BMW prior to the collision.

“The driver of the Mercedes, a 30-year-old man from Blackpool, was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

“The driver of the BMW, a 28-year-old man from Blackpool was arrested on suspicion of drug-driving.

“Both men have since been released under investigation.

“We are now appealing for information footage and are particularly keen to hear from anybody who witnessed the collision or anybody with CCTV, dashcam or CCTV which captures the Mercedes and BMW in the Blackpool area from around 5pm onwards.”
