A COMPANY boss stopped as he drove home from a celebratory meal was found to be more than three times the legal drink-drive limit.

David William Worden, 45, of The Meadows, Darwen, pleaded guilty to driving with excess alcohol.

He was ordered to do 60 hours unpaid work, banned from driving for 20 months, and ordered to pay £60 costs.

The court heard Worden was stopped driving a Lexus in Blackburn Road, Darwen, at 12.15am by police acting on information received.

He gave a reading of 119 against the legal limit of 35.

Andrew Church-Taylor, defending, said Worden had gone out with his wife and some friends to celebrate good news about his son's health.

He had always intended leaving his car and getting a taxi home.

Mr Church-Taylor said Worden's company employed 22 people and his client travelled extensively to find new business.

If this is the David Worden I think it is, then it is very sad that he has let himself down in this way. His son has been very ill and he has done some great things for charity. But no-one is above the law and he should consider the effect on other families if he had been involved in a collision with another car.
