Review: Darwen Live @ various venues, Darwen

THE first day of the annual Darwen music festival got into full swing yesterday.
The free music festival kicked off at 1pm on the main stage and at Darwen Library Theatre.
This was shortly followed by the first performance in Knott Street Community Centre.
Yesterday saw The Bluetones, Goldblade and The Monkees artist Peter Tork on the main stage.
Peter Tork closed yesterday's show about 9pm.
Hundreds of music lovers crowded around the main stage in Darwen town centre, as well as the other two venues.
Darwen Brass Band kicked off the main stage around 1pm, followed by other acts.
Police said the ban on alcohol being brought into the premises was going well and there had been no arrests The festival is in its ninth year and ends today with the bands Men They Couldn't Hang and Boomin.

I attended Darwen music festival and I did not see any trouble were police had to intervene. If anything the bands were not supported because people had to move away to get food, as there was no food available within the event and the beer tent was heaving with people. Children had drinks confiscated from them by security staff and pop was not available in the beer tent. Children could not enter the beer tent so parents could not enjoy a drink or some children were left unattended outside while parents waited for over 30 mins to be served as the bar staff could not cope. So much for the family event Blackburn with Darwen Council promised.
I personally feel that the music event has been spoilt by the council so it will not go ahead next year.
Good news for you Happy Bob, Darwen will be stripped of the festival that you feel we do not deserve. Oh and by the way Bob did you attend the event and you fail to tell us were you live.

The event was attended mostly by local in breads who obviously got drunk around the nearest corner or back alley. As for incidents, there were lots of issues the police had to deal with, when is the event going to be banned, you are all lower class scum who do not deserve any type of music festival.

But I must admit I was shocked by how many shops were shut. We hear lots from the traders in Darwen about how bad business is. Here we have probably the busiest two days of the year in Darwen Town Centre and most of the shops were shut. I'm no expert but when there are thousands of customers around, it might be a good idea to open your doors!

Why do you sell papers in Darwen after such a passionless article on a two day musical festival.
I couldnt make the event but feel let down disappointed in your reporting of the event, you tell me nothing provide no indepth detail of the event so why bother, if you cant do anything good then dont bother at all Lancashire Telegraph.
Do any other readers feel the same?
