Three gastropubs in Lancashire have been named as some of the best in the UK after being shortlisted in the Estrella Damm top 50 gastropub list.

The Higher Buck in Waddington, The White Swan at Fence and The Parkers Arms in Newton-in-Bowland have all reached the top 50 list for 2022.

Estrella Damm release a top 50 gastropub list each year and are voted for by their regional voting academy.

Members include gastropub operators (who can’t vote for their own pubs), food writers, pub company catering development managers and executive chefs, celebrity and top hospitality industry chefs, pub guide editors, industry chiefs and food operators.

2021’s list was released earlier this year, but the shortlist for 2022 has already been announced this week.

There is no official order or ranking yet as this is set to be announced early next year – but several local business are proud to have even made the top 50 list.

The Higher Buck in Waddington, Ribble Valley, made the top 50 shortlist and were delighted to be recognised.

In 2021, the restaurant sat at number 92 meaning it has jumped at least 42 places since then.

A spokesperson said: “We are extremely happy to announce we have been listed in the top 50 gastropubs in the UK.

“It’s a testament to the hard work of the whole team after a tough year for everyone in the industry.

“Our position on the list will be announced in January 2022. Huge congratulations to all who have been named!”

It wasn’t the only Lancashire business to make the top 50.

The White Swan at Fence, just outside Burnley, say they were “chuffed” to make the top 50 once again.

Laura Ostick, one of the owners, said: “We are absolutely thrilled to have been mentioned on the 2022 list.

“We’ve been featured on the list four times over the years. We started out at number 49 and then we moved down to number nine; last year we sat at number 23.

“Our staff are thrilled to be in it and it’s nice to be noticed.”

The Parkers Arms, based in Newton-in-Bowland will also feature in the 2022 list.

In 2021, they featured at number four in the country and have featured in the top 10 list three times in total.

Stosie Madi, owner and chef at The Parker’s Arms, said: “We are always very proud to be in this list and it’s a wonderful thing for Lancashire to have been featured in the list as it shows we are a foodie area.

“It’s wonderful for the region, for us and for tourism.

“Every year when we are entered it is a huge morale boost for the team, especially as we survive through every adverse condition from the last two years.

“It’s very special to be up there with the best.”
