WEEKEND walkers were left baffled after spotting a white van, which appeared to have been driven into a canal.

On Sunday morning, people walking close to Greenberfield Locks in Barnoldswick spotted the van half submerged in the water.

Passers by say they have no idea how the car came to be in the lock

One walker said: "I don’t know what happened but I found it early on Sunday morning when I was on my walk. The lock keeper was already there and we checked there was no-one about and he called the police.

"Whoever drove it there did well to get there but obviously wasn’t that good at turning round."

While Glenda Bennett, who took the picture, said: "It was quite a thing to see on our bike ride. And an extremely skilful bit of driving by the recovery vehicle driver."
