RESIDENTS of a cul-de-sac off a main road out of Blackburn have appealed for their road to be resurfaced.

Householders on the service road off Yew Tree Drive in Lammack have submitted a petition to senior councillors calling for action.

But Blackburn with Darwen Council's Executive Board has been recommended to refuse their request on Thursday.

A report to it says: "A petition signed by residents of seven of the eight properties on the side road off Yew Tree Drive has been submitted to the council requesting that their road be resurfaced

"This service road is an adopted 96-metre long cul-de-sac immediately off Whinney Lane at its junction with Yew Tree Drive.

"The residents believe both the carriageway and footway should be resurfaced.

"The petition states some residents have lived there 20 years and the road has not been resurfaced in that time.

"The residents note both the main dual carriageway and the service road on the opposite side

of Whinney Lane have been resurfaced and cannot understand why their cul-de-sac has not.

"They are concerned for the safety of the numerous lorries, van, wagons, joggers and dog walkers that

use the cul-de-sac.

"They state that one resident has almost fallen over a number of times.

"This road is inspected annually and defects which exceed intervention levels are repaired.

"The major issues lie with the carriageway with the footways generally being acceptable.

"It would be unrealistic to expect routine resurfacing of side streets or cul-de-sacs in the foreseeable future."
