A STONYHURST porter who had been on a night out with colleagues decided to sleep in his car and wait for his dad to pick him up as he did his early morning milk round.

Blackburn magistrates heard police got there before Peter Ian Holden's father and he was arrested for being in charge of the vehicle while over the limit.

Holden, 39, of Avenue Road, Hurst Green, pleaded guilty. He was fined £136 with £85 costs and £30 victim surcharge and banned from driving for three months.

Keith Rennison, defending, said Holden and colleagues had been invited out by the college bursar and they had been to a local pub.

Holden, who was not usually a drinker, had more than he normally would do.

"At the end of the night he got in the car and started the engine," said Mr Rennison. "He was waiting for his father, who is a dairy farmer and does the early morning milk round to come by and pick him up."

Mr Rennison said that he would normally provide a defence to the charge but his client had been honest enough to admit that if he had woken up earlier he may well have driven.
