A LAWYER accused of attacking a fellow guest at a reception had made people laugh with his speech, a jury was told.
Christopher Dunn has admitted that he hit out at David Baird-Dean who needed reconstructive surgery for facial fractures but he insists he acted in self defence .
The prosecution alleges that Mr Baird-Dean, 48, from Blackburn had ticked Dunn off for exposing himself at the Harefield Hall hotel in Pateley Bridge, North Yorkshire.
The reception followed a service for a couple to renew their wedding vows after ten years.
Barrister Dunn, 40, of Victoria Road, Morley, Leeds, who was one of the best men, denies a charge of grievous bodily harm with intent and an alternative accusation of inflicting grievous bodily harm.
Defence witness Vincent Walker, who was the ring bearer at the ceremony, said he was not aware of Mr Dunn's speech causing problems. "It was very funny," he said.
He told the jury a tattoo was visible through Mr Dunn's shirt, running from shoulder to elbow.
Two women had asked if he had any more, and they were relxed and flirty, said Mr Walker.
Dunn laughed and said: "I've only got tattoos that people would love to see."
Mr Walker said the women were saying "show us, show us" and Dunn undid his zip, but he did not think he pulled down his pants.
He said he did not see Dunn's private parts.
Mr Walker said Mr Baird-Dean then stood up and walked to Dunn at the fast pace, and took hold of him.
Dunn told him they could not fight because it was a blessing.
Mr Walker told the jury: "David Baird-Dedan said 'it's not their blessing - it's your funeral'"
He said later he saw the men shake hands, and Dunn went to apologise and offered to buy everyone at the table a drink.
The trial continues .
