A THIEF who had loaded three TVs into a supermarket trolley used the shop’s free phone to call a taxi to remove his haul.

Blackburn magistrates heard that two days later Thomas Junior McAleese returned to the same store and made another free call, this time removing two television sets.

McAleese, 29, of Monmouth Road, Blackburn, pleaded guilty to theft of three TVs worth £417 from Asda, theft of two sets worth £278 from the same shop and theft of steaks worth £120 from the Co-op. He was remanded on bail for the preparation of a pre-sentence report.

Catherine Allan, prosecuting, said all the offences had been caught on CCTV.
