I have come to the conclusion that I have been wasting my time and money over more than 12 months in trying to get a fitting memorial on Horspath village green for all those who have, are and will defend our country in times of attack.

On Monday, I attended the annual parish meeting and when it came to item 11 on the agenda (war memorial) all they did was ask for suggestions for a memorial just as they did 12 months ago.

In that period they have done nothing apart from a couple of weeks ago sending out a questionnaire with the memorial idea added on the end.

After Monday’s meeting I asked the councillor dealing with the questionnaire what the closing date is.

His answer: ‘There is no closing date’.

Therefore, as I see it, with no closing date the questionnaire could be still be open in 20 years time and still no village memorial on the green.

I’d like it where everyone can see it, including the children, in safety, without having to cross the road, especially on Remembrance Day which surely is the very least we can do!

But alas our wonderful community spirited councillors think otherwise, probably because it is Keith Brooks who has been openly pushing for it!

I have only put my name down for election to the parish council this year to help get a memorial put in place.

But just as when I joined the council at the last election, certain people have made it all too clear that I will not be allowed to have any input into council business and one person against 10 will get out-voted every time.

So, should I waste any more of my time just banging my head against a brick wall?

Maybe someone else?
