TWO teenage girls have admitted starting a fire outside a home, which provides accommodation for vulnerable young women.

Blackburn magistrates heard the fire brigade was called to put out a bin fire at the home in Burnley Lane in the early hours of Monday.

While they were there a petrol bomb was found, which had been lit but had not exploded.

Charlotte Brabiner, 19, and Chloe Wold, 18, of separate addresses at Gladstone Heights, Accrington, pleaded guilty to arson at Bowland View.

They were both remanded on bail for the preparation of a pre-sentence report.

Parveen Akhtar, prosecuting, said Bowland View was a care home for vulnerable young girls. Brabiner had been a resident there until November of last year when she was told she was no longer welcome.

Just after midnight on Monday a fire was discovered in a wheelie bin outside the home. While firefighters were there the manager found a vodka bottle filled with petrol with a rag stuck in the neck.

“This petrol bomb had been lit but had not exploded,” said Miss Akhtar.

“The prosecution believes this was some kind of revenge attack.”

A piece of cloth matching that stuffed into the neck of the vodka bottle, was later discovered at Brabiner’s home.

Miss Akhtar said police had been considering laying a charge of threats to kill after a string was discovered in a police cell, which had been shaped to form the words “kill her”.
