Harry Jarvis is accused of murder, perverting the course of justice, fraud and theft.
The charges relate to the discovery of the remains of his 47-year-old wife Carol Jarvis in her home in Bathgate, West Lothian.
At a hearing in Livingston Sheriff Court today, Jarvis, 59, from Bathgate, entered no plea to the charge.
His co-accused, Rita Heyster, 55, also from Bathgate, also made no plea to charges of murder, perverting the course of justice and fraud.
They were both remanded in custody until their next court appearance.
