Dunfermline are set to present David Hay as their new manager tomorrow. Negotiations are nearing completion to bring the former Livingston and Celtic coach to East End Park as a replacement for Jimmy Calderwood, who has joined Aberdeen.

Javier Clemente, the former coach of Spain, put himself forward for the job but no negotiations took place. Stan Ternent, the former manager of Burnley, and Steve McMahon, who used to coach Blackpool, were interviewed, along with the former Rangers captain, Richard Gough.

Hay has been widely tipped to take over after club chairman John Yorkston appealed for a man with experience in the Scottish game. Having taken Livingston to a CIS Insurance Cup win last season, the former Scotland internationalist's standing in the game remains high and he is well respected by his peers.

His expected appointment signals a quick return to the game for the man who was replaced as Livingston man-ager by Allan Preston only a few weeks ago after a consortium took over the club.

Jim Leishman, the general manager of Dunfermline, said: ''There has been a lot of speculation but it would be unfair to name names until Thursday, when there will be a press conference. There are things we still have to do before we can announce anybody. We have given up on Clemente, but the chairman has been dealing with that and he is now on holiday.''

lScotland internationalist Gareth Williams is at the centre of a transfer row. The 22-year-old agreed a switch to English Division 1 outfit Leicester City after a miserable last season at Nottingham Forest. Leicester must pay a fee for Williams because of his age, but the figure has started a war of words between buyer and seller.

Forest want more than (pounds) 3m for the player and have dismissed City's initial offer of around (pounds) 500,000 as ''derisory''.

lKilmarnock have agreed a three-year extension to their kit deal with McLelland Cheese, worth (pounds) 300,000.

lDumbarton manager Brian Fairley has made his fourth signing of the summer by snapping up freed Falkirk striker Andy Rodgers on a one-year deal.
