AN off-road bike enthusiast has come up with a unique idea to combine his hobby – and raise money for charity.

Graham Lampkin, 62, is offering one or two-day trail rides from East Lancashire to the Scottish Borders in return for a donation to Cancer Research UK.

Graham, who lives in Colne, came up with the venture after undertaking an off-road charity ride to Lerwick, in the Shetland Islands, last year.

The two-week ride, using a specially prepared route that took in as many off-road sections as possible, saw Graham and two friends, Frank Anderton and Les Humphries, raise £3300 for the charity.

“It was a great success. We raised a lot of money and had a good time too,” said Graham, who is a member of Red Rose Classic Motorcycle Club.

“Afterwards, I was approached by several people who expressed an interest in following the same route. That’s where I got the idea from.

“I’ve decided to offer to take small groups on the first day of last year’s trip, which is from Colne to Newcastleton in the Scottish Borders.

“It will include seven green lanes and four ford crossings and makes a great scenic day out.

“We can either be a a full day or have an overnight stay in Newcastleton and make a two-day trip of it.

“Riders can either use their own bike or I will recommend a local hire firm. None of the off-road is hard going, but it is through some great countryside.

“I will pay my own costs, all I ask is that the riders that come with me make a decent donation to Cancer Research UK.
