THE staff at Oddies, Pike Hill, are proud to be the first to fill their Pendleside Hospice collection tub in memory of customer Gail Simpson who died last November.

In four weeks customers contributed £42.74 to the memorial fund which had set a target of £10,000 but is now expected to raise in excess of £20,000 for the hospice. The bakery shop has already started filling a second tub.

Also a tub at Nino’s at Cliviger raised £34.07 and the restaurant has now started another tub.

The tubs are two of 30 positioned around Cliviger, Worsthorne, Pike Hill, Burnley town centre and Barclays banks in Burnley, Nelson, Colne and Barnoldswick.

The first event for the memorial fund is a soul night at the Crooked Billet, Worsthorne, on March 14, which is sponsored by Worsthorne Brewery.

Gail, of Smithyfield Avenue, Worsthorne, died last November of ovarian cancer aged 61. During her last few days she received visits from the Hospice At Home service.

Major events planned are a 6-mile sponsored walk, a charity football match involving two teams of ex-Clarets and a gala dinner.
