PERFORMERS from around the globe will bring a touch of drama to East Lancashire.

Artists from as far away as Canada will perform 19 shows at 23 venues across the county for Spot On Lancashire, which runs until May 23.

The season opened with a National Theatre Live screening of Treasure Island at Parbold Village Hall last week.

Venues include Accrington Library, which will host children’s theatre show The Boy Who Bit Picasso at 1pm on Saturday, May 23, The Rainhall Centre in Barnoldswick, which will see Alison Neil present The Fossil Lady of Lyme at 7pm on Friday, February 20, and Tockholes Village Hall, which will host duo Mumbo Jumbo at 7.30pm the following day, and Miss Caledonia at 7.30pm on Friday, May 8.

Other venues include the Mellor Brook Community Centre, which will host Alison Neil’s The Fossil Lady of Lyme at 8pm on Saturday, February 21, and Jim’s Vegetarian Restaurant in Colne, which will show off rising Canadian singer/songwriter Ian Sherwood at 7pm on Sunday, March 15.

Theatre Newfoundland will present With Cruel Times in Between at The Rainhall Centre at 7pm on Friday, April 24, while Chanje Kunda will perform Amsterdam there at 7pm on Friday, May 15.

The festival’s director, Sue Robinson, said: “Our autumn season was hugely successful last year and we’re looking to build on that in the spring. We’re particularly excited about being able to welcome three different shows all the way from Canada to the county.

“Once again there’s a real mix of high quality shows with something to suit all tastes and there are some new venues joining us for 2015 too.”

The first live performances will be the stage adaptation of Monty Python star Terry Jones’ well-loved children’s book, Nicobobinus, at St Michael’s On Wyre Village Hall on 14 and 15 February.

The Tom McConville Trio bringing their Pennine folk music to Cliviger Village Hall from 7pm onApril 19, an evening dedicated to Charlie Chaplin will be held at Accrington Library at 7pm on Saturday, March 7.

Circus Geeks will present Beta Testing, a show about jugglers and their strange obsession, at the same venue from 1.30pm on Saturday, March 28.

Spot On Lancashire is a county-wide service which enables people living in remote and rural communities to enjoy high quality live arts events on their doorstep.
