COMMUTERS faced delays on a busy bypass following a two car crash this morning.

Police officers and ambulance crews were called to the A56 Edenfield bypass, just before the turn-off for the M66, at around 7.30am.

A police spokesman said the crash between a grey Land Rover Discovery and a white Peugeot 208 had caused delays in both directions.

The female driver of the Peugeot initially complained of chest pain, the spokesman said.

A spokeswoman for the North West Ambulance Service (NWAS) said a crew was called out at 7.53am but was no longer needed when it arrived on the scene.

Motorists were warned to expect delays of around 40 minutes in the crash's aftermath.

Traffic was expected to clear up by around 9.45am.
