LANCASHIRE Police has promised to continue to tackle drink-driving in East Lancashire.

It comes as statistics reveal almost 1,500 breath tests were carried out across the region throughout December 2014, as part of their annual crackdown on people getting behind the wheel after consuming alcohol.

In total, 35 people failed the test and three refused to provide a specimen – resulting in a failure rate of almost three per cent.

The annual crackdown on drink-driving saw high-profile activity take place around the clock.

Supt Jon Puttock said: “This year’s Christmas drink-drive campaign saw us adopt a more targeted, intelligence-led approach. As a result, we carried out fewer breath tests than in previous years, meaning it is difficult to make any direct comparisons.

“People who choose to drink and drive not only put their own lives in serious danger, but the lives of everyone around them.

“We will continue to carry out regular enforcement activity and take action against those who break the law.”
