A BULGARIAN man arrested for drink-driving collapsed during a breathalyser test at the police station.

Blackburn magistrates heard Todor Tsikalov, 52, was taken to hospital by ambulance where a blood sample was taken which showed he was over the limit.

Tsikalov, of Boston Road, London, pleaded guilty to driving with excess alcohol. He was fined £210 with £105 costs and banned from driving for 14 months.

Parveen Akhtar, prosecuting, said a police officer in Great Harwood was approached by a member of the public who had seen a man who appeared to be drunk getting into a car and driving off towards Rishton. The car, with Bulgarian plates, was stopped and when Tsikalov got out it rolled back because he had forgotten to put the handbrake on.

Ian Huggan, defending, said his client had come to visit friends in Blackburn and had driven to Great Harwood intending to leave his car and get a taxi back.
