A TEENAGER who assaulted two females after a drinking session has been sent to a young offenders institute for 17 weeks.

Blackburn magistrates heard one of the females suffered a broken ankle and perforated ear drums in the attack by Tierney Dunne.

Dunne, 18, of West Crescent, Laneside, Accrington, pleaded guilty to two charges of assault and one of arson by throwing a mobile phone onto a fire.

Catherine Allan, prosecuting, said both girls had been drinking with the defendant and an argument started.

Dunne pushed the first girl to the floor and spat on her before hitting her with a picture frame. The second female tried to protect her friend and she was dragged down the stairs.

The first girl said she believed she had passed out when Dunne punched her.

Paul Huxley, defending, said his client had no previous convictions and was distraught by what had happened.

“There were a lot of emotional issues going on in the background,” said Mr Huxley.
