SPORTY students took part in a biathlon in memory of Adam Rogers.

Adam, a former pupil at St Bede’s RC High School, Blackburn, was killed in a one-punch attack in the town centre in 2009, when he was 24. His parents have been trying to raise awareness of the Every Action has Consequences campaign, which was set up in his memory.

Youngsters at the school took on the challenge of completing a swim at Queen Elizabeth’s Grammar School, Blackburn, and a run at the East Lancashire Cricket Club and the first Adam Rogers Memorial Trophy was presented to the winners.

Adam’s dad Dave, who was awarded an MBE in the Queen’s birthday honours list this year, attended the event with his wife Pat and said it was a great tribute to his son, who was a keen sports fan, having coached the Padiham Ladies team.

Lancashire Telegraph:

He said: “Adam would have loved it.

“He loved anything sporty and he would have a go at anything.

“He did a bit of running and he was starting to get into doing runs like his mum.

“He was also a very good, potentially excellent, cyclist with bags of stamina.

“Adam played previously for a Sunday league football team and the last trophy he was awarded, which is my favourite, was a players’ player award.

“The Adam Rogers Memorial Trophy is a really nice legacy for him.”

Christopher Bentley, St Bede’s director of physical education, said around 200 pupils took part in the contest.

He said: “Mr and Mrs Rogers came in and started the races and handed out medals.

“It was the first time we had ever run the school biathlon.

“The ides was to raise awareness of Adam’s story.

“The pupils also do a module as part of the PSHE programme on Every Action Has Consequences and we raise money for them every year.”

The aim of the charity is to educate young people under 25 on the dangers of violence and the serious consequences their actions can have.

The Rogers have undertaken several campaigns since the tragic death of Adam.

This year they launched Smile A Mile For Adam campaign to ‘help make the world a better place’ and raise money for Every Action Has Consequences.
