Police confirmed they were called to an address in Lower East Avenue at 10.30pm on Sunday by ambulance crews.

And detectives have concluded their investigation, finding that the death was not suspicious.

A police spokesman said: "We can confirm the tragic death of a six-month-old female in Lower East Avenue.

"The parents themselves are very young, with the mum aged 21 and dad aged 27.

"We had the call on Sunday night from the ambulance service who had attended the scene and said the baby was in cardiac arrest.

"She was taken to Airedale Hospital where she was later pronounced dead.

"Enquiries commenced the following morning and there is nothing suspicious about the death.

"It is a tragic accident and at the moment it is unexplained.

"The child was placed in her usual sleeping arrangements and when they later checked she was unresponsive.

"No post-mortem examination has been carried out, but we expect one to take place nearer the end of the week when things will hopefully become clearer."

A file has been prepared and sent to the West Yorkshire Coroner's Office, however a spokeswoman said the case had been referred to the East Lancashire Coroner's Office.

A spokeswoman for the East Lancashire office said: "We are still waiting for the paperwork to come through.

"We are waiting for the transfer and for the coroner to accept that transfer."
