THE Dingle Fishing Club has officially been given a 15-year lease on the Dingle Lodges in Sunnyhurst Wood after negotiations with the council.

Eventually it is hoped to establish a garden of remembrance within the perimeter, around an appropriate tree, perhaps an English oak.

This could be used by local people to quietly contemplate and, as happens around Entwistle Reservoir, hang Christmas cards and remember loved ones.

Sunnyhurst councillor Brian Taylor said: "Not only is this an asset for the local community, but it locks in the habitat within Sunnyhurst Wood and will help to maintain and protect the flora and fauna of that area."

Heron and kingfisher can often be seen at Dingle Lodges and the Moat which is part of the 85 acre woodland, which also includes routes for family walks and picnics.

The Olds Keeper's Cottage now serves as a visitor centre and art gallery, where visitors can enjoy refreshments whilst picking up information on the history of the area

The community is very much involved in the wood through the active 'Friends of Sunnyhurst Wood' group. For more information contact 01254 701545.
