EVERY football fan dreads it when their team tries to ‘walk it into the net’ – but not the promoters of East Lancashire’s most sedate version of the beautiful game.
No free-kicks are given for time-wasting in Walking Football – in fact you run the risk of a yellow card if you break into a trot.
10 outfits came together to compete in a charity tournament for the Rossendale-based Raft Foundation.

Even Rossendale and Darwen MP Jake Berry strode forth, turning out for the Raft Ladies side, as Mayor of Rossendale Coun Ted Aldred looked on.
Volunteer Dave Meadows came up with the idea – within six weeks teams representing everyone from the Masons Arms to Lancashire Road Riders were lining up for the fundraiser at Marl Pits in Rawtenstall.
Eventually the Community Voice Careline Response team walked away with the honours, defeating Warburtons in the final.
A Raft spokesman said: “It brought together some people from our community for the first time.”
