JOANNE Nelson made it two wins from two in the Red Rose Cross County League as she stormed to success in the second race in the series in Chorley on Saturday.

The Darwen Dashers star, as she had done in the opening race in Leigh, claimed both the main ladies title as well as the L40 age group prize after passing the post in an unbeatable time of 18 minutes 27 seconds.

But she was pushed close by Christina Singleton, the Trawden AC ace following up in second in 18mins 50secs.

Also making the top 10 were Nelson’s clubmate Hannah Shaw, who was the fastest L20 and seventh overall in 19mins 53secs, Singleton’s clubmate Autumn Howard, who was eighth in 20mins 2secs, and Accrington Road Runners’ Annabelle Ralph, who was four seconds behind in 10th.

Moyra Parfitt, of Todmorden Harriers, was the fastest L65 and 103rd overall in 27mins 22secs.

The Darwen Dashers team, comprising Nelson, Janine Fallon and Carol Butterworth, were the veterans team winners.

The Rossendale Harriers teams, consisting of Sophie Murphy, Charlotte Waddington and Shona Monks, and Rebecca Flanagan, Elisabeth Longshaw and Megan Solomon, were the winners of the L17 and L20 team prizes respectively.

For the second race running Christopher Fell was the fastest East Lancashire club member in the men’s event.

He came home fourth in 35mins 43secs with clubmates Rob Webb and Grant Cunliffe hot on his heels in fifth in 36mins 17secs and sixth in 36mins 50secs respectively.

Burnley AC’s Gary Shaw was the fastest M40 and seventh overall in 37mins 13secs with Blackburn Harriers’ Mat Nuttall the fastest M45 and ninth overall in 37mins 34secs.

Clayton-le-Moors Harriers’ Colin Shuttleworth was the fastest M55 and 56th overall in 42mins 24secs with his clubmate Peter Booth claiming the M60 prize after crossing the line in 47mins 35secs for 127th place.

Fell, Webb, Cunliffe combined with Ashley Holt, Nick Schofield and Matthew Harris to ensure Rossendale Harriers ran away with the team title.

Harris was the fastest M20 and 18th overall in 39mins 14secs.

The veterans team prize went the way of Todmorden Harriers thanks to the efforts of Jonathan Wright, Robin Tuddenham, Dwain Dixon and Craig Stansfield.

East Lancashire starlets enjoyed success in the junior races.

Clayton-le-Moors Harriers’ Jackson McKay won the U11 boys race in 5mins 54secs while Rossendale Harriers’ Phoebe Small was the winner of the U15 girls race in 17mins 8secs.
