THE father of murdered East Lancashire nurse Jane Clough has collected more than 103,000 signatures in his fight to have a stalkers register introduced.

John Clough set up an e-petition last month calling for Home Secretary Theresa May to create of a list of convicted stalkers which could be monitored in a similar way to the sex offenders’ register.

Miss Clough, 26, was stabbed 71 times as she walked into work at Blackpool Victoria Hospital by her ex-partner Jonathan Vass in July 2010.

Mr Clough and his wife Penny, who set up the Justice for Jane campaign, have teamed up with Pamela Dabney, whose daughter Kirsty Treloar was also murdered by a former boyfriend in Hackney in January 2012.

Writing on the petition, Mr Clough, from Barrowford, said: “People with a history of stalking are as dangerous as sex offenders and there needs to be tracking and monitoring of them.

“We need to act now to save lives by protecting women from serial stalkers and domestic violence perpetrators by introducing a register which would help police to pro-actively identify, track, monitor and manage stalkers instead of relying on a series of victims to report multiple crimes.

"This needs to change. It is the perpetrator’s behaviour that is the problem. There needs to be a positive obligation on them to change their behaviour and take responsibility.

“They are the ones who need to be tracked, supervised and managed and not the victim. We can’t bring our daughters back but we can save others in the future.”

Mr and Mrs Clough also act as ambassadors for Paladin National Stalking Advocacy Service, which is supporting the call for a stalkers register.

Vass was on bail awaiting trial for 13 rape and assault charges when he stalked Miss Clough on social media and murdered her. He was jailed for a minimum of 30 years.
