PC Allan Fernie said: “Two men were asked to show their tickets by a revenue inspector.

“They made a show of searching their pockets before showing out-of-date tickets.

“When challenged, one of the men pushed the inspector out of the way and the pair left the station.”

Undeterred, the inspector followed the men, at which point one of them turned and ran towards him shouting threats.

Fearing for his safety, the inspector backed off.

The men left the scene at Chorley station, shouting further threats at their victim as they went.

PC Fernie said: “Thankfully, the member of staff was uninjured, but he was shaken by this incident.

“Nobody who works or travels on the rail network should have to fear violence.

“We are following several lines of enquiry into this incident and, as part of our investigation are issuing two images.

“I believe the men in these pictures have information about this incident.”

Anyone with information about the incident on Wednesday, August 13, is asked to call on 0800 40 50 40, or text 61016.
