THE Bishop who helped with the Queen’s visit to Blackburn on Maundy Thursday has been put in charge of England’s Cathedrals and church buildings.

Now the Right Reverend Dr John Inge has been invited back to the town to see the progress of its new £30 million central quarter and clergy court.

The Dean of Blackburn Christopher Armstrong has welcomed the new appointment for the man who, as Lord High Almoner, made several visits to Blackburn in the run-up to the historic royal ceremony to prepare Maundy pensioners as well as being present for the Queen’s visit on April 17.

Bishop John will take over as Bishop of London and lead bishop for cathedrals and church buildings.

Dean Armstrong said: “I am delighted Bishop John Inge has been appointed to this important role.

“Bishop John is a close friend of Blackburn Cathedral as he worked together with us throughout the preparations for Maundy Thursday.

“I look forward to welcoming him again to Blackburn in his new role.”
