A FIRM commitment to saving the planet has seen East Lancashire’s train operator move from providing a silver service to being given a platinum rating.
Northern Rail, which runs the three main services through the area, was given the status by Business in the Community.
It recognises the company’s efforts in tackling climate change and considering environmental factors when making major business decisions. Alex Hynes, Northern’s managing director, said: “We are delighted with this result.
“It demonstrates once again that we are growing stronger every year in our commitment to sustainability.
“Obtaining third party verification for our carbon footprint, along with the major improvement in our waste management through the use of dry mixed recycling, was highly praised.”
