TRIBUTES are pouring in for a teenager who was stabbed to death in Blackburn.

Ashley Meadowcroft died from a single stab wound to the chest on Sunday evening.

Last night Rebecca Tootle, 20, of Fecitt Brow, Blackburn, was charged with murder and is due to appear before Blackburn magistrates today.

Neighbours in Fecitt Brow described how they saw the 18-year-old, who was described as a “top lad”, stumble into the street from the end-of-terrace house screaming for help before collapsing on the pavement. Police officers carried out emergency CPR but Mr Meadowcroft died.

The youngster had recently turned his life around by being the only person in the area to be handed a prestigious national training award after finding himself home- less.

He had also completed a six-week course at Blackburn College.

Friends have been taking to Facebook to express their grief and to Ashley’s family.

Ash Wilson posted: “He was a top lad, one of the soundest mates I had. Gonna miss him. You'll have a top send off. I’ll be there. RIP big man.”

Michelle Hartley said: “RIP Ash. My thoughts go out to your family. Another young life gone far too soon xx”.

Chris Harrison said: “Such a shame and waste of a young life. RIP Ash.”

And Fozia Nadeem wrote: “Tragic, another young life taken. Blackburn is becoming an awful place to live. Scary.”

Police were given extra time to question a 20-year-old woman from Blackburn, who was charged with Ashley’s murder last night.

A spokesman said: “Officers went to court on Monday night to get a warrant for a further detention, which was given to them.”
