A PENSIONER was run over by her car after forgetting to put on her handbrake.

The elderly lady forgot to engage the handbrake before she got out of her Skoda Fabia outside Home Bargains in Eastgate, Accrington at around 3pm.

She was trapped under the car between the driver’s door and front wheel, suffering right leg and ankle injuries.

Two fire crews were called to the scene who assisted paramedics putting the lady on to a stretcher before she was taken to Royal Blackburn Hospital.

Watch manger Neil Carter said: “Crews attended the scene and assisted the paramedics for 20 minutes.

“We helped to get her careful on to a stretcher before she was taken to hospital. She was on her own at the time and only suffered injuries to her leg.”

A spokesman for the Home Bargains store said: “A large crowd watched what was going on and the incident blocked the entrance to the store. It also partially obstructed the car parking but traffic was able to move slowly through.”
