The ranking came after The Freemasons received a coveted seven out of 10 score, and Northcote a six.

The Good Food Guide is the UK’s bestselling restaurant guide.

The guide, which was launched in 1951, reviews restaurants, pubs and cafés, while providing a guide of the best places to eat out around the country.

The guide also announced its first top 50 pubs list for the first time, with The Freemasons top.

The Duke of York Inn in Grindleton also made the list of best pubs at 45.

Steven Smith, patron of The Freemasons said: “Words can’t explain how proud we are to be the first pub to achieve a seven out of 10 in The Good Food Guide.

“We’re a little pub in the Ribble Valley that wants to offer its customers a gastronomic experience second to none and we believe that this achievement proves we’re doing that in spades.

“Our ambition is to keep moving up the rankings, and so far, that’s happened every year.

“We’re seeing customers travel from afar to visit us and there’s no greater feeling than knowing you’ve made their visit worthwhile.”

Nigel Howarth, chef and patron of Northcote, said: “Great to have been included in the Waitrose Good Food Guide 2014/2015.”
