MEMBERS of the Lancashire Young Farmers group cycled a 300 mile round tip to visit all 18 club rooms in the county in three days.

The youngsters were raising money for research into Alpers Syndrome, a progressive neurological disorder.

The route took members from the Pennine region, through Bowland and up to the most northern clubs in Wyre Lune.

The cyclists then went down the west coast of the county on their way back to East Lancashire.

Jess Townson, the county chair who came off her bike and landed in a hedge within the first three miles, said: “Not many, if any, of our members are keen cyclists and so this was a huge challenge to complete. The weekend had many ups and down, literally and emotionally.

“Although the weather was relatively kind to us on the Saturday, the hills certainly weren’t and the last leg from Slaidburn to Hornby was certainly testing of all of the members who took part.

“But they all persevered and made the full stretch.

“Our chosen charity is one close to our heart as a past member of Lancashire YFC currently has a six-year-old child who is unfortunately suffering with this condition.”
