RARE memorabilia from a little-known tour of Scandinavia by inter-war Blackburn Rovers sides is due to attract a wave of interest at auction next month.

Tour itineries from Rovers’ overseas trips to Denmark and Sweden in 1934 and 1939 will go under the hammer at Lockdales, in Ipswich, on September 13 and 14.

The items, which have been put up for sale by a private collector, are expected to fetch three-figure sums.

The leather-bound documents, which are in good condition, will be sold alongside a signed British Transport Catering Services menu from the train which took Rovers to their 1960 FA Cup Final defeat against Wolverhampton Wanderers at Wembley.

Other lots include pictures of the end-of-season tours and a programme from a celebration dinner in April 1939.

Auction manager James Sadler said: “Our clubs go on Scandinavian tours now, but I didn’t realise they did pre-war.

“I’ve never come across items like this and, not surprisingly, many collectors have been taking an early interest.”

The booklets are in good condition, with a red one describing the 1934 Rovers tour of Sweden and Denmark between May 23 and June 4.

The other, a blue one, is for the 1939 excursion to Denmark only, from May 27 to June 5. The next year Denmark would be invaded by Germany during the Second World War.

Results published by the well-respected Rec.Sport.Soccer Statistics Foundation (RSSSF) show Rovers won three games of the 1934 tour against a Danish Select XI by scorelines of 7-2, 3-1 and 3-2.
