A YOUNG David Beckham may have blown his first pay packet on a BMW sports car – but trainees at Accrington Stanley will be taking a cheaper option.

Rather than clambering behind the wheel of a Ferrari or Aston Martin, the lads at the League Two club have been given subsidised passes to travel to and from training on the bus.

Stanley academy manager Keith Brown, who posed for pictures alongside the youngsters at the launch of a club partnership with transport operator Transdev, said the gift was ‘a great gesture’.

“We have young lads travelling in from all over the north west and on an apprentice’s wage, travel can be a massive cost,” he said.

“These free passes will give the boys one less thing to worry about.”

First year scholars at the club hail from across the north west.

Defender James Wolfenden lives in Clitheroe, midfielder Jack Hartley is from Rossendale, and Roman Hickey hails from Clitheroe.

Others live as far as Manchester, Oldham, and Stockport.

The under 18s team are get their season under way tomorrow playing Preston North End in the Youth Alliance.

Transdev spokesman John Burns said: “Away from the bright lights of the Premier League, we are delighted to offer our assistance.”

A great gesture, It is time the people of Accrington came out and supported the club as they need you now more than ever.

Good gesture, having said that, if they make the grade and get the "flashy cars" will they then put some of their money back into what made them?
