A ROAD safety charity is urging East Lancashire residents not to drink even a drop of alcohol before getting behind the wheel.
The Brake warning comes as figures from the Association of Chief Police Officers’ summer drink-drive enforcement campaign show one in 15 of those breath-tested were over the limit. During the national campaign – which ran throughout June – 63,688 breath tests were administered, of which 4,108 were failed or refused.
The figures represented a 1.3 per cent increase compared to those gathered during the 2013 campaign.
Julie Townsend, deputy chief executive of Brake, said: “It is frustrating to see so many drivers still selfishly risking lives by getting behind the wheel after drinking.
“Our message to drivers is to pledge never to drive after drinking any alcohol – not a drop. We need the government to introduce a zero-tolerance drink drive limit, rather than asking drivers to do the impossible and guess if they are safe.”
