A MAN was found covered in blood in a Blackburn street after being attacked.

The 31-year-old local man was discovered with head injuries close to Blackburn Fire Station, in Freckleton Street.

A passer-by banged on the door of the station, in Byrom Street, and asked for help from firefighters at about 11pm on Monday.

Watch manager Chris Fogarty said: “We were asked by a member of the public for help with a gent who had been involved in some sort of fracas.

“The man was covered in blood and had a head wound. We gave first-aid until police and an ambulance arrived.”

Police arrived at the scene shortly after 11.10pm, and they discovered the man had injuries to the back of his head.

He was taken to the Royal Preston Hospital for specialist care, but his condition was not serious, a police spokesman said. It is not believed the attack was random.

A 39-year-old woman and two men aged 38 and 42, all from Blackburn, were arrested on suspicion of assault but later released without charge, a police spokesman said.

It was the second time on Monday that fire crews had to administer first-aid in the street.

At about 6pm, a man in his late 40s suffered head injuries after an apparent fall outside the station.

Mr Fogarty added: “Crews went out and delivered first-aid until the ambulance arrived. He had hurt his head, and was bleeding quite badly. We believe he fell.”

A spokesman for the North West Ambulance Service said the man was taken to Royal Blackburn Hospital for treatment.
